The United Nations Security Council unanimously voted for the extension by 12 months of inspection and seizure aboard ships off Libyan coast: especially those suspected of smuggling immigrants or human trafficking.

The Security Council's resolution adopted under No. 2652 aims to give permission to the member states of the Security Council to address the phenomenon of migrant smuggling and human trafficking in the Mediterranean off the Libyan coast, and it also allows them to take other measures in the seas.

On Thursday, the UN Security Council will hold a session on Libya. The UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, Rosemary DiCarlo, will present the developments in the political, security, economic and humanitarian situations in Libya.
